HISTORY OF CROSS COUNTRY
AT GENOA HIGH SCHOOL
Cross country was officially added as a fall sport at Genoa High School in 1966. In its inaugural season, the cross country team consisted of eight boys. The 1966 team, lead by Coach Honner, competed in seven duels against (in order): Rogers (41-20), Lakota (35-22), Sylvania (30-29), Clay (32-35), Lake (32-27), Anthony Wayne (36-23), and Whitmer (23-32) for a two win, five loss record. Cross Country was added as a girls sport in 1986. The first team of girls, lead by Coach Roxanne Ullom, consisted of two runners, which increased to six the following year. (Source: 1986 & 1987 Genoa Limelight Yearbook.)
